Media Happenings 7/23

Many more books continue to make their way to the Media Center each week.

The Blackberry Bush by David Housholder is an invitation to a treasure hunt through the landscape of your soul…Josh grows up an artistic and gifted California Golden Boy, but for all that life has handed him, he struggles with his identity and role in the world.  Surrounded by unrealistic expectations, he feels hedged in.  Katie’s German heritage presents its own obstacles to understanding herself and what freedom means.  She is crushed by disappointment at never being “enough”—especially for a mother who cannot be satisfied.  As Josh and Katie’s lives unfold, discover the  life-transforming power of a “chance encounter” …or is it chance at all?

When Sparrows Fall by Meg Moseley is a tale of depth, poignancy, and humor.  The author has penned a fantastic debut with this book.  Miranda vows to reclaim freedom, safety, and love for herself and her children.  When the pastor of her close-knit church announces his plan to move the entire congregation to a new state, she jumps at the opportunity to dissolve ties with the pastor and his controlling method of ruling the flock.  He threatens to uncover secrets from her past, and she feels trapped, terrified she’ll be unable to protect her children.

An adrenaline-laced thrill ride, False Witness by Randy Singer takes readers from streets of Las Vegas to the halls of the American justice system and the inner sanctum of the growing church in India, with all the trademark twists, turns, and intrigue fans have come to expect.  Great suspense; gritty, believable action make this book Singer’s best yet!  You will be interested to know that all royalties from the sale of this book will be donated to the Dalit Freedom Network, which works to provide Delit children a first-class education and free them from the bondage of human trafficking.

Listening by Rene Gutteridge is  a fascinating and lightly crafted story that explores a town’s journey toward redemption with humor, grit and heart.  Gutteridge’s skills are evident in the snappy, realistic dialogue, and her talent for suspense keeps the pages turning!

We’ll see you in the Media Center soon.  Happy Summer Reading!
